It’s Obama!

Hail our new messiah! Now the land will heal and water will part…

On a more serious note, Barack Obama has won a thoroughly deserved victory. He ran a magnificent race and out-spent, out-thought and out-campaigned John MaCain. He was clearly the better candidate and in a democracy, that is all it counts! He sure was lucky but you need political skills to take advantage of it.

McCain tried hard and fought till the last but in the end it was never going to be enough. To his credit, he gave a gracious concession speech though some of his supporters did not have the common decency to respect a man who had beaten them fair and square.

As anyone who has ever read this blog will know, I am not someone too concerned with race. But even I understand why Obama’s victory may be so significant to African-Americans. I just hope they get the correct message from Obama’s victory–anything is possible if you want it badly enough–and not see redemption in Obama. Because he can’t deliver for them. Only they can for themselves. As is true for rest of us.

So how will Obama govern? More on this later, but I am firmly convinced that Obama will govern from center with a just a little Leftward orientation which is quite natural. For two reasons: He is pragmatic and he is ambitious. Pragmatism means that every one of his more unsavory associations–from Wright to Ayers–were used and then discarded. Ambition means that he will want a second term. That will require him to cater to a larger population than just his base. In fact, the sharp turn he effected in the general elections–it was hard to figure out who was more gung ho on national security–is illustrative of the fact that the man is smart enough to change with shifting political winds.

And he has the means to do it. He has a devoted base who really seems to think he is the Savior, he has the organization, money and most importantly, the legitimacy of carrying more than 50% of popular vote. At least in his honeymoon period, which typically lasts for one year, it is hard to see any democrat opposing him. That is typically the time period presidents manage to advance their agenda most; second year would be elections and then it would be to each his own. If he is popular then the party will stand with him; if he is not he will be ignored.

Anyway, enough time for this. For now, congratulations President Obama! A job well done.

  1. According to the Indian media, Obama is going to save the world – first the economy, then Palestine and then Pakistan-Afghanistan!
The messiah has arrived. Stupid fools!

  2. dictator,

can he lend a couple of grand? That’s all I need.

  3. Yeah Sakshi, stupid fools indeed.

I wonder why Indian media does not mention that he will be most likely to continue Bill Clinton policies with respect to India i.e. India-Pak hyphenation, sanctions, supporting China and Arabs, prevention of free and fair trade, protectionism, etc…

Guess the secular media are just euphoric over him being a black and muslim, going by the headlines (”Dark Knight in White House”, etc)

  4. Obama deserves the presidency and all the hard-wired challenges gaping at him. Only tough man can withstand the ever mounting pressures around and the dirty consequences developed out of unintelligent, short-sighted decisions.n Obama is tough a man…I wish that a significant % of men were like him

He is far too evolved and intelligent to common kind, and what an influencer! Only true leaders can touch the internal systems in humans, make them feel a lot more confident, influence them to rise above their insecurities and weaknesses, n imbue them with that much desired Positive Energy.

There is no space for messiah kind of theories in this age. Only weaklings seek messiahs. most of us are empowered with some decent knowledge and education, have gathered some ability n skills to stand on our feet, what PEOPLE need is that Inspiring, encouragingly confident influence breezing over their frayed nerves. a gush of confidence! N Obama fits here, so admiringly
He is a perfect man, a worldly aware leader!

n he is HOT….! only a few men can be HOT…n that pours out from their skin, from their eyes, from their voice….. the gait!

May the Force be with him! The world needs such leaders…just imagine a huge bunch of schematic Indian politicians in front of him…chicken hearted, they dither in fear!

Bob Jeffrey, the New York-based chairman of JWT Worldwide, said: “While there’s no doubt we have serious economic problems, Obama inspires confidence and that’s bound to impact on consumer demand.”

It’s that set of simple words : Confidence. Change.

  6. Though I dont understand why Obama should poke his nose in solving the Kashmir issue, I am still a Obama girl..
What I wait to see is how he will steer a country struck by its weird financial spendings and boggled by the bad economical downfall into a normal one!
In my honest opinion, he should concentrate first on his country and then start thinking about the rest of the world…

  7. On the HOT thingy… yes, I am with you, Jyo.

I also find Obama hot and handsome! :)

  8. Sire,
I will lend you a couple grand… declare me your messiah!
