Hell. Down with Women.
Either way, by broadcasting that she’s open to being Obama’s running mate, she puts public pressure on him similar to the sort of pressure Walter Mondale was under from rampaging feminists when he put Geraldine Ferraro on the ticket. Mondale ended up seeming henpecked, as Obama would seem if he caved to the women who say they will write in Hillary’s name or vote for anti-choice McCain before they’d vote for Obama.
For months, Hillary has been trying to emasculate Obama with the sort of words and themes she has chosen, stirring up feminist anger by promoting the idea that the men were unfairly taking it away from the women, and covering up her own campaign mistakes with cries of sexism. Even his ability to finally clinch the historic nomination did not stop her in that pursuit. She did not bat her eyelashes at him and proclaim him Rhett Butler instead of Ashley Wilkes.
Yes, the old man can.

Why ‘down’? Oh wait! don’t answer
Rhett Butler
Great balls of fire!
word count=6
Get Economical. with food, with words, with dress/apparel, with water, with sex, with kisses, ….
Surprise ending for Ms.Dowd seemingly pulls back one for Hillary “she didnt bat her eyelids at Rhett”, given how anti-Hillary she has been throughout, even in the rest of that op-ed.
But this reminds me I may have been unfair with my earlier comment on Hillary-hating; quite a few media ppl seem to have it in for her.
Judith Warner has extended the argument a bit here:
http://warner.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/05/woman-in-charge-women-who-charge/index.html
Though I dont fully agree, a couple of episodes did come to mind. Comedy spoofs SNL or Jay Leno on Clinton and Obama. Hillary was represented as a cackling woman with an evil gleam. Obama pretty much came up normal.
Moderator: One nice thing abt your opponent from each of you….
Clinton-dupe: well… he isnt a Muslim…. as far as i know… (cackle)
Obama-dupe: some stupid made up remark that was sexist and offensive
One thing to remember here, even through that bias, is that Clinton’s was a REAL line, and Obama’s was FAKE- bcos there was no *real* offensive line from him in the campaign, the closest being the indifferent “oh youre likeable enough”
That they used that line there suggests rampant sexism in the media late night shows (has there ever been a doubt abt that?) not mainstream media discussion.

I didnt understand why she would call him Rhett and not Ashley?
Ashley, in my opinion is a pure wimp! And Rhett is a man!
