finally lady came n blessed our part of mother loam (earth)…most times, she was seen smiling like a chesire cat, n with pleasant interruptions like waving at the crowds who were chaning something

saar, waving at the crowds is too western a concept.we, Indians, fold our hands n say Namaste or Namaskaram to other mortals.But I feel this gesture of Namaste, anyway, has been bastardised by political leaders….

The Indian persona is characterised by “Chalayga” view to life – there is very small percentage of home India who want to see better in India – the majority unwilling view to change their “Chalaga” life style. This “Chalayga” style has can be seen in the manner the government is handling public affairs – in a “Chalayga” manner. Most of the building in India are in shambles – again the “Chalayga” view. There is no particular urgency from anyone to change thing because the historic “Chalayga” ambush their senses .

Indians do very well indeed when they are outside the “Chalaga” box as evidenced by how Sunita William’s desire to become an US elite.

The time has now come (although there were many previous occasions) for Indian’s to shrug off their “Chalayga” views and take on the task to challenge all services for a better one – including electing the right government, fight low and high level corruption, get up and do something … just like what other countries are doing, but even better so that we can turn to the world and say not “Star of Indian Origin” but “Star of India; home grown”.

Look on the bright side of things, we’re having people in India learn about space travel. They’re getting interested in space exploration, and indirectly that inspires them to take up science as a career option. In all of this, the catalyst is the very clever media coverage which is a boon to so many people in this country.

A similar thing happened when Har Gobind Khorana received the Noble Prize. A lot of Indians claimed him as Indian. In fact, he couldn’t even find a job in India. He had to move to US to find research grant and eventually win the Noble prize. He was American when he did his research and won the prize. If he were in India, I doubt if he would’ve won the Noble prize.

Unnecessary importance to NRIs by daughters and sons of India….wonder, what would happen if at least a 5% of this surge of energies is channelised into “how to eradicate poverty or how to dismantle regressive attitude towards women in India or how to curtail environmental crisis..”?

perhaps little Citizens of Indian, starry-eyed, have been the audience to a few interesting facts , such as :

- “I am half Indian and I have got a, I am sure a group of Indian people who are looking forward to seeing a second Indian, person of Indian origin, flying into space. So, it’s nice to know that everybody brings along with them a group of people from all over the world that get interested in space.”

-A letter written in Hindi by her father is among the few personal items Williams took into space

-Daughter n Dad bonding, dad, Deepak Pandya, an immigrant, is her role model

“He is an amazing role model because I think my accomplishments are relatively easy. When I think about someone leaving their home country and starting all over and becoming a success, it is amazing”
