Barack Obama Has Insulted Indians!

My fellow Indians,

American presidential candidate Barack Obama has grossly insulted all of us good Brown people and especially that breed called ‘South Asians”.

The document trashes Bill Clinton’s stock investments, his fees from out-sourcing and down-sizing companies and Hillary Clinton’s support from well-off Indian Americans who also profit from out-sourcing. It describes Hillary’s political affiliation as (D-Punjab), apparently riffing on a joke made by a supporter about how well the senator understands India’s issues.[link]

This is outrageous! There is not a minute to be wasted. We must set the record straight. We must take offense!!! In fact, I am already rather offended. I come from a land where taking offense is a national past time; anyone who even remotely insults Indians will pay the price.

As it has been previously established, American elections are about Indian Americans–rather, who has offended them. All other issues including the war in Iraq, economy e.t.c can be put on the backburner.

There is a not a minute to lose. The Indian Prime Minister must register a strong protest with the Bush Administration. If Bush is not ready to apologize for Obama’s comments, then I suggest a massive rally in New Delhi against George W. Bush. If things don’t improve, I think India should declare war on America.

In the interim, look-how-brown-I-am party also known as Sepia Mutiny should immediately launch a strong movement against this insult to our heritage, culture and all that. I demand a constant stream of posts till 2008. Not for a minute we shall let Obama   rest–so, he might actually concentrate on real issues of state.

I also appoint macaca who is widely experienced when it comes to taking offense as our chief spokesman.

March on!

  1. So, Obama did tender an apology, eh?

I say this is due to the growing clout of the Indian bloggers and of-course the one’s who comment on the blogs. ;-)

  2. Pat,

    heh. I did see that.

    Bongo,

Yes, Kolkota must take the lead. I think the Commies have become too lazy. During the good ol’s days by this time, there would have been 2 bandhs.

    How we miss those days?

    Jyo,

I suggest you start a company. It needs a more professional outlook.

    Vivek,

Yeah. When bush went to Albaina, there was a newspaper headline:invade us please!

    Gaurav,

    I like him!

    Neha,

Yes! I think women should take charge this time? Why should men get all the fun!

    Shadows,

I am not disputing that. But I find the angst of American Indians a little strange. I can’t figure out why do they take everything as an insult?

    Cinamon,

    Why not Monday?

    Nuerojava,

Thanks, but as an Indian I know the art of taking offense!

    Pat,
Thanks. I hope this will satisfy the folks at SM.

    Jyo,

Hmmm, what do you it should be done.,

    Shadows,

Sigh! You comparing a mere American presidential candidate to our superstar? Shame on you!

  3. While you were at it you should have blown the Indian-American angst even more out of proportion by comparing it to the ‘offence’ the Muslim community feels at Rushdie’s knighthood.

  4. What? No effigy burning? I protest!

  5. @QSG – We are trying to go green with the protest. Effigy burning is now online – you can design a good likeness and then set it on fire.

  6. His qualities were beauteous as his form,
    For maiden-tongued he was, and thereof free;
Yet, if men moved him, was he such a storm
As oft ‘twixt May and April is to see,
When winds breathe sweet, untidy though they be.
His rudeness so with his authorized youth
Did livery falseness in a pride of truth.

“Well could he ride, and often men would say
‘That horse his mettle from his rider takes:
Proud of subjection, noble by the sway,
What rounds, what bounds, what course, what stop
    he makes!’
And controversy hence a question takes, …..

    A lover’s complaint….

    @ Pat :)
No I missed that “CRUSH” party. am tryin a Rendezvous with him, yes, it is challenging, but I am trying, I’ve tried to work it out with my words…..

  7. The issue refuses to be resolved:
see this demand for more apologies !

But he called on Obama to apologize directly to the Indian community.

“He needs to be more specific and needs to understand the pain it has caused,” he said.

WTF – some random dude from Obama’s campaign writes something thats not even really offensive, and it causes ‘pain’ ?!!

I demand an apology from Rohit immediately due to all the pain caused from reading his blog everyday ! Flying down to Australia for a day and buying me two rounds of beer should do it !

  8. R, the holiday starts from wednesday evening right upto monday.

I can’t tolerate more than that of a geek without losing my peace of mind.

  9. Bongo,

Hmmm, I think the best solution would be to rename New York as Punjab. This will really make Hilly Clinton the senator from Punjab!

And the point about flying down to Aus would be duly considered.

  10. Hi confused,

But why is Obama then raising the old anti-outsourcing tirade ? That surely means he does not know what he is speaking OR it was deliberate..

Now lets see some other facts.. Frankly speaking, the Indian IT industry is not doing very high-tech work, except for a few pockets (after all, how many IITs or RECs do we have?).. Most high tech IT work still takes place in the US , in companies like MS, Sun, Adobe, Google etc. Even if there are some job losses in US due to Indian IT workers, it is negligible (nowhere near the inflated numbers put forth by vested interests, lobbying groups maybe) and its mostly at the low level (its mostly BPO actually).

I wonder if there is deliberate misinformation being spread. Obama is being highly opinionated and biased (or atleast, misinformed and ignorant) by giving such statements. John F Kerry was also similar.. another misinformed presidential candidate, whose company Heinz makes money selling tomato ketchup in India n elsewhere, and still he spread lies about IT outsourcing..

  11. Confused,

I know such protests seem trivial.. but guess whats worse ???

If you dont clarify, such crappy statements would be taken as the truth !! Who gets hurt – The IT industry, American, Indian, European, Far-Eastern, on the whole..

I will present to you an example – Recently a European company started IT operations in India. They have been forced to do so, because they were losing market in Europe, running into losses. They make profits by doing so, and we too, in our respective local markets. Both gain. Only now has that company realized that they need to be globally competitive.

Coming back to protests. Of course, there is a limit. If you protest over non-issues, and depending on how much you protest, it again is stupid.. its a lot more complicated than we can imagine..

An example again – lets say that obama comes to power and he bans american companies from cooperating with any other country’s IT companies. Operating costs of companies like GE, GM, AIG, wells Fargo, Citibank, DHL, etc increase. They lose to competition from foreign companies who may or may not be okay with outsourcing. Both lose.. ..

Forget Racism, it does not even make economic sense.. This man Obama can kill the American economy (n hence the world economy) ..

  12. what the hell does that mean i know obama has insulted indians but i dont get what he means by that speech im clueless can someone email me at da1ndonlypimp@yahoo.com
and explain me to this but about the thing about the war i dont think we indians should push it that far

  13. [...] can you love bhangra and be not for Punjab? Of course, last June it was not known, and some of us felt insulted and wanted retribution. I am not kidding. Read the post. And even New York Post got into the game. It cannot get any more [...]
