And now what are cops advocating? Shutting down Orkut because Shiv Sena attacked internet cafes!!!

Yeah, ban orkut. Its responsible for a lot of spam.. India is a poor country and we cannnot afford wastage of precious bandwidth.
R, I have met some long lost freinds and men-from-the-past thanks to orkut. So i honestly don’t think its entirely stupid but needs some serious looking into.

Orkut should be banned, for a badly designed user interface but not for the reasons mentioned.
Shivsena’s behavior doesn’t surprise me though. In the world at large the definition of freedom of speech is, “Say anything you want as long you don’t say anything bad about me or my beliefs.” It is exemplified in many occasions such as that Muhammad (may peace be on him or something like that) cartoon thing, or that MTV’s show on Gandhi thing!
But we must fight for our freedom of speech. Without it, life will be miserable.

If you don’t like Orkut then don’t visit it and don’t use it. But you have no right to say that it should be banned. On what basis are you saying that it is against Indian culture. If you see something with prejudice then you can will only see the part you wish to see. Orkut does have many advantages. Ofcourse, it could be having a [b]little[/b] disadvantages due to some anti social elements present in the community. But compared with the advantage it is nothing and can be prevented if you make judicious use. Personally I have found Orkut very much useful. I was able to connect to many of my ex-classmates due to orkut, which would have never been possible if there was no orkut. If you like India and her culture that much then go and raise your voice against those unscrupulous politicos, who are doing much more damage to us.
Just because somebody said something bad about Shivji or Balasaheb, nothing is going to happen to them. You don’t have to worry about them, because they are supposed to worry about us and care us. They need no help from you because they are omnipotent and omniscient. If anyone’s negative comment about the Gods hurt them, they will give the appropriate punishment.
@Shadow : You have been completely been misguided by someone about the virus episode. There was never any virus in orkut. If you got any, then it could be from some other (?) website you visited. And about the spam, you have seen an increase in spam because now more and more people can see your email address in your profile. You should have thought about that before. Orkut provides you with the facility to hide your email address from people other than your friends. Don’t blame orkut for your mistake. If you have used the option to hide your email, then again you might have used your email id in some unwanted sites. I have over 300+ friends in orkut, and I have never seen an increase in spam after joining orkut.
