After India’s defeat at the hands of Bangladesh, there was much noise about how Bangladesh is such an improved side and India paid the price of underestimating them. This blogger was skeptical was of such claims and believed that India lost because they played badly.
In today’s match, Sri Lanka, by whipping Bangladesh by a margin of 198 runs showed that the gulf between Bangladesh and the major test playing nations is still wide. Not only did the Lankans score more than 300 runs but they shot out the Bangladeshis for a paltry score of 112. As I said before, Indians lost because they allowed Bangladesh to play better. Not because they are actually better.
As far as qualifying for the next round is concerned, India’s match with Sri Lanka is a virtual semi final. If Sri Lanka wins, then Indians will have to take the next flight home since there is no way Bermuda can beat Bangladesh. However, if India wins–even if the margin of victory is not much–it should see them through to the next round. India’s comprehensive win over Bermuda and Bangladesh’s big defeat to Sri Lanka has pretty much taken the Net Run Rate(NRR) out of the equation. In case of a three-way tie between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the former two should go through unless Bangladesh can defeat Bermuda by a margin close to 300 runs.
So it all boils down to the India-Sri Lanka match on Friday. Preparations are currently on and immense amount of Beer will be procured.
I am getting drunk either way.

Umm, actually Bangladesh will have to defeat Bermuda by about 450 runs to qualify, if India defeat Sri Lanka. Unless I completely messed up my calculations.
Hmmm….like I keep saying, not the most effective (cost or otherwise way of getting drunk).
well anything could happen…Bermuda can beat the pants off Bangladesh. While the Tigers claw brilliantly to reveal the shifting sands of allegiance in times!
But, it’s time to cut the hype and hoopla around *one match wornderlands* and bring in realism to the cricket pitch itself. can anyone take a trip down memory lane and tell su “what happened when Tigers – Indias & Lankans collide on their heads on a sunny Friday?” {I truly miss Pakistan)
What happens to real men when they chug beer while watching the action ….? do they at least entertain those *serenading thoughts of huge bellies ?
@If Sri Lanka wins, then Indians will have to take the next flight home….
my humble suggestion to GIB (Gang in Blue) to stay back at the virgin beaches, n introduce local folks n their tourists to hot n spicy n succulent n masalas dappled Indian cuisine (6 months de-stressor) , instead of facing close encounters with bricks and bats and crumbled walls with gaping voids…
this whole thought of “receiving our lads with a forgiving heart” unsettles me a bit. I secretly wish their knickers are not endorsed by any brand {while the birds on their way back home, brands/companies would not hesitate a bit to snatch away the endorsements)
**anyway, I resemble “the fleeting memory of Indians.when it comes to India, our memory is quite short/brief*. I dnot want to discourage them at this moment.dead lads, we are praying for you!
Well if there are chances of india beating SL …. then there are chances Bermuda could beat SL as well. i have serious doubts about india getting thrown out so soon…too much money at stake and too much potential loss of money that can be made in the booking circuit.
get drunk and have fun..it helps ….even though for a very short time and sucks if you manage a hangover.
BTW… am getting drunk too…not for or because of cricket..just coz it would be Friday.
.. and martinis this time for sure.
Right about the so-called ‘improved’ Bangladesh side. If I remember correctly, they had ‘upset’ Pakistan in the last world cup and then we heard nothing notable from them after that. Again, they have come to this WC and defeated India. So unless they win more regularly in ODIs apart from the ocassional upset win in WCs, I would also view with skepticism any opinion on Bangladesh being an ‘improved’ side in the long run.
Their ODI record shows they have won 34 out of 151 ODIs they played and only 4 wins were against major test playing countries (plus 15 against Zimbabwe which are for all matters concerned as good as a non-test playing country now).
They played well against India and we didn’t help matters, as you said, by playing really bad.
i’m opening a beer right now …
>> there is no way Bermuda can beat Bangladesh
Confused,
Battle of the Minnows … anything can happen.
Sailesh,
Fair enough.
Bongo,
As I said elsewhere, we shall follow your orders.
Jyo,
Well, dont think Bermuda can beat Bangladesh. I like your other suggestion, I would say introduce hot Indian curries and Dosas too!
Cinamon,
Guess they won’t try to fix it though of course advertisers would lose a tonne of money if India was to go out so soon.
Neha,
Great!
Shadows,
Well, of course, anything can happen. But unlikely.
@hot Indian curries and Dosas too
we just stumbled upon a new dosa(i) n idli hotspot, which offers dosas wth “non-veg/meat” fillers and idlis with a few pieces of meat or dipped in some hot n spicy non-veg curry…Kheema Dosa, Chicken Lababdar Dosa, Cauliflower Dosa, Pizza Dosa …
R
.it’s sacrilegous an act! how can they *desanctify pure foods thus?
Dosas galore..104 varieties of Dosas…I will join this place waitress-cum-dosa maker

Hey,
Today is the big game. India vs Srilanka. What does everyone think..
Now, I aint been following much of Sreesanth, but why is he not included? Now he cannot even be taken in at this stage(since he doesnt have that match practice), or at super 8 , unless someone is injured.
Conversation that took place yesterday night –
A friend : I think that chances will be 70-30.
Me: No, i dont think so. India ka bowling attack kachra hai, Kumble ke sivay. If Indian batting clicks, we have a good chance. I would put it at 50-50.
Friend: I was talking about SriLanka’s chances.
Rippu {shadows},
I think it’s going to be INDIA.
though I admire Lankan Tigers at war-footed dimension, I feel this immense need to be with my lads.
If not for the country and for the fellow country men/women, I want our dear lads in blue to play for the coach and for their dear lives….
*Now u tell me what will you do if I win this bet. If I lose, I will come in a burqa to meet you
Jyothsna,
Well, I hope you win this bet,
But no burqas etc..
On second thoughts,
If you lose, you will have to eat a large pizza (with cheese). And only you, no sharing.
Rippu,
I am ashamed of this. But I supported the Gang of Jerks till the last moment.Took a long drive at 2AM. and I lost the bet.
and I am meeting you (with or without a veil)
