Morons!

A relatively unknown NRI stand up comedian has apparently posted a video where he plays Mahatma Gandhi and indulges in few decidedly UnGandhian activities. But still, I was quite surprised to see the language of the CNN-IBN story-

An attempt by an NRI stand-up comedian and clown to gain instant popularity by portraying Mahatma Gandhi in a cheap and vulgar way…The short video clip, made by US-based NRI Gautham Prasad, shows Mahatma Gandhi in some outrageously vulgar scenes that one can’t relate to the Father of the Nation even in a nightmare.

LOL! I don’t know what kind of nightmares this particular correspondent has but can we please put a stop to this we-can’t-make-fun -of -Gandhi nonsense? A two-pence comedian makes a video and the amount of outrage it sparks is amazing-the story described NRI as Not Really Indian, whatever that means.

Needless to say, Indian government has issued a directive that this video shouldn’t be aired accompanied by the usual warnings and threats. I just wish that it reserved some of this outrage for terrorists and other such creatures.

All these guys should be brought to US and shown spoof videos of Jesus Christ.

For one whole year.

Oh, this lovely comment.

in the name of free speech, everything is being done to denigrate anything Eastern – Islam, Gandhi and other Asian giants. its time the East start lambast everthing west, including their Jesus with equal and powerful denigrating communication.

Dude, you are welcome.

Update- Found the video-here. I couldn’t even watch it for a minute. It’s so damn unfunny and stupid. But is this a reason to threaten YouTube with a ban and get the collective knickers of Indian government into a knot?

  1. It is beyond dispute that this madness about Gandhi and all has to stop. Having said this, let me remind you that such comments and ‘outrages’ are an actitivity initaited and executed by politicians. A normal indian has no time for gandhi while we have to fight.. water shortage.. load shedding.. dengu… 7/11… the ’system’ and you-name-it-and-we-do-it.

  2. “their Jesus”??

When did he become Western?? I thought he was still Mid-Eastern.

  3. I don’t think it should stop.

If we don’t believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don’t believe in it at all. –Noam Chomsky

Gandhi wouldn’t have bothered. May be he could even laugh at this.

  4. Definitely the guy who commented on that article has not heard of any hard rock musicians or their songs and lyrics.

Leave the religion aside, but shouldn’t we show some respect towards the father of the nation?

  5. PS: Just noticed that the IBN link is not working.

  6. >> Leave the religion aside, but shouldn’t we show some respect towards the father of the nation?

    =======

    No.
    Why?

  7. so…
    This is it
    we stand around the ring
    watch
    someone new
    who is clown in mind,
    working at the death
    of respect,
    whip your fuckn eyes
    to drop some tears
    the death has come
    gather around the grave….irritated J

  8. Probably the govt banned the video because it is so bad (in terms of ability to evoke laughter) !!!!

And they gave the ‘insult’ excuse, for want of a better one.

Now if only they also banned 80% of the trash that comes from Bollywood – (20% is still required to remind us that we are humans)

  9. This might sound a bit provoking.

Is this fascination for creating infallible father/mother figures who are made into some sort of demi-gods (Forget Gandhiji, we have the likes of MGR, Rajkumar, NTR) a reflection of idol-worshipping culture?

  10. What Biju said regarding the evoking of laughter makes sense.

I, for example, would be highly uncomfortable watching it. But that doesn’t mean I rant and rave about the impropriety of the video and keep everyone else from viewing it.

What is funny to me, may be unfunny to many, and vice-versa.

  11. i had tough a time to suppress my giggles at this point…
“… Indian government has issued a directive ….. accompanied by the usual warnings and threats”

    someone tell me..
since when Indian Govt. started indulging threats, as I always heard feeble protests like goats bleat…

  12. Confused,

Link please.. I could not find the video. Dont worry, you are not in India ;) so no gulags for you.

  13. Yes please do give the link. Even your IBN link is now useless.

  14. We need some quality shit if we are to continue defending freedom of speech :) These half-baked comedians, NRIs or not aren’t helping much.

  15. Hi all,

Just a quick comment for now, youtube is down so I ma unable to to give the link to the actual video.

  16. MKGandhi should be denigrated because he made Nehru the first Premier of India instead of Sardar V Patel.
