Tired of expensive overseas calls? Through this New York Times article, I have discovered a terrific new phone service which lets you call overseas for free. No catch, no ads, no contract, hell, they don’t even ask you to register.! Check out their website.
Just call 712-858-8883, enter 011, country code and the desired number and you are through! Sadly, they don’t offer service to India as of now, but they do offer free calls to at least 50 countries, including Canada.
I don’t know if there is any catch or how do they manage to offer free calls but who cares as long as its free. And before I forget, you make calls from your regular phone, not that skype business. Only catch is that you have to pay long distance for the US part. But if you have unlimited national calls on your phone or have a cell phone with nights and weekends free, even that is free. A completely free overseas call!
Finally, I have only discovered this service today. I am going to watch my cell phone bill very carefully for the next few days before I let go. You are well advised to do the same.
And hey, spread the good word!
p.s Btw, do check out the NYT article. Many other free goodies on offer.

am sure you checked the FAQ section:
Is it really FREE?
For callers that have ***unlimited long distance or nationwide long distance plan’s with their cell or local service provider, yes it will be FREE***
If you do not have one of those plans the international long distance portion of the call is free, and you would just pay your normal rate for a domestic long distance call.
A mutual monetary memorandum of understanding***MMMU
I would love to invest my hard-earned/sweat-drenched money on my loved ones, which is more satisfactory than getting something free
Jyo,
I have unlimted nights and weekends minutes, infact almost everyone who is on contract has that.
Ah, about spending money rather than getting for free., maybe you have enough to spend.
Thanks Confused!
We use Send Global to make overseas calls. It’s not free but very cheap and voice quality is superb. You just buy minutes online and make calls via regular phone.
Jyo,
There is always a catch when someone offers you something free. I guess its a new trend to market ones company.
Gosh !!!
Send Global
PS. Do me a favor and delete above comment. BTW I’ve no affiliation with above company.
hi Mariam
good to see you again! ye got your & R’s point. “Free calls” drive “higher frequency of calls to a destination’ , which somehow reflects in the firm’s kitty….light users are encouraged to call more often, while heavy users are motivated to have longer conversations..I say, the human trend is “talk more”, “talk often” and “get services at cheaper or no cost”…as Zara is made fashion affordable!
Mariam.
Thanks. Seems like a useful service.
Nice catch. Now I have to make friends in other countries before I call them.
Ermm i’m from Myanmar and i wanna know whether i can call to thailand and Uk .. from here…
