Of course, I would do that. I would readily give it up. But then, if you think practically, Islam is far more fundamentalist, and it will not be easy. Do you think anyone in the world would give up religion, if the other is not willing to give it up, and continue destroying you in the name of religion?

Well, what you say is actually right. I should be concerned and agitated, but then, I admit I am not.. there is slight remorse, a slight guilt, a little whirlpool of angst. But then I realize who is responsible for all this, and I dont have any hope left. After all, isnt muslims killing anyone else(incl other muslims) secular?

Another intervention by a foreign country would mean an attack on Islam, so nothing can be done about it. I dont think anything is ever going to come out of it in Sudan. And Arabs would stay away, because they are the ones killing the blacks, so that they have the whole of Sudan to themselves.

Well, religion is man made, although I am not going to argue the divine angle. By the way, a child getting to live and mourn his parents is perhaps among the best stories out of Darfur chaos. Usually what happens is … let’s not go there.

True but you msut remember, what ever little you hear about Darfur is because of International media and journalists like Kristoff. Western media has been far more concerned than say Asian media.

No doubt, Darfur offers no easy targets.

On a sidennote-Sudan is actually pretty rich in mineral reserves and such like. Only if it had some governance too.

It is very simple. The Darfur massacre is yet to find synergies with one of the popular movements of the day such as impeach Bush, cool the planet, save cheetahs, support Palestine, exterminate zionists etc. etc. The save Muslim angle doesn’t cut it either – the killers are Muslims as well. Reuters wouldn’t be interested in photo-ops since the photos from Darfur don’t look half as good as the stage managed beautiful photos from Lebanon (how many were killed there? Like a dozen?) The Arab world usually couldn’t be bothered as long as Islam is with the winning side.

One way to save the day would be to throw in the big oil into the picture. For instance, western style oil exploration leads to slaughter. Unfortunately there is no Exxon Mobil derrick to be photographed yet, and this wouldn’t cut it. Furthermore, if oil was the issue, why wouldn’t the sparring (or rather the slaughtering and slaughteree factions) just get along and split the petro?

A better angle would be to somehow implicate Bush. Simultaneously, you have to refrain from any mention that the marauding armies have anything to do with Islam. The angle will play out nice. Bush and his imperialist cronies want oil. They are sitting in the sidelines so the natives are massacred and oil fields are appropriated.

I believe the last angle was already played. Alahs, in the din of American domestic politics (high stakes), Darfur is but a distant cry folks would rather ignore for the moment.

Darfur doesn’t matter to bleeding heart liberals of the west, to the Indian communist protesting Saddam Hussein, to those who would condemn about Palestine and Hezbollah.

Btw, why doesn’t the balochi massacares ever get media attention? Balochi’s don’t matter. If it wasn’t for the US involvment in Iraq, Kurds wouldn’t have mattered.

But Kashmir matters, Palestine matters, because they can all be potrayed as Muslim-vs-Non-Muslim. Oppressor vs Oppressed, and in the modern world, its always been the norm to potray muslims as the oppressed. When infact, they start slaughtering their own brethren their thesis of muslims oppressed by evil corporations in conjunction with greedy western nations falls apart. So, they take the best approach which keeps their sanity and egos intact – the head in the sands approach.
